0.9.0 - Tags, Reconciliation & YNAB Import
π New Features
Tags Support
You can now add tags to your transactions! They let you create custom cross-category groupings, making it easy to track the information you care about. You can attach any number of tags to a transaction. Of course, you can also add, remove, or edit the default tags. For each tag, you can choose the label, color, and emoji.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
-
Cross-category grouping: Group transactions across categories under a single logical label. For example, you can tag all βTravelβ expenses as
βοΈ trip-italy-2025, even if some fall under Food, Transport, or Lodging.
This way, you can see the total trip cost while still tracking individual expense categories. -
Tracking specific events or projects: Tagging weddings, birthdays, home renovations, or holidays helps you quickly answer questions like βHow much did X really cost?β
-
Tax-deductible expenses: Use tags like
π deductibleorπ§Ύ work-expensefor easy filtering during tax season. -
Recurring vs one-time: Tags like
π recurringandβ¨ one-offhelp distinguish fixed vs flexible expenses. -
Emotional/behavioral tracking: Tag purchases with moods (
π impulse,π treat,π§ self-care) to reveal spending patterns tied to emotions. Or try to track and reduce the number ofπ bad-habittransactions. -
Shared costs / reimbursements: Tags like
π― sharedorπ° to-reimbursemake it much easier to track group trips and settle up later.
Balance Reconciliation
Itβs now easier than ever to check your in-app balance against your bank balance! You can also record any difference as a transaction with a single click.
This makes sure the app and your bank are in sync and helps you spot any discrepancies quickly. After reconciliation, transactions are marked with a green checkmark to show theyβre properly accounted for.
Another use case is tracking interest-bearing accounts. Once a month, you can compare the current balance against the in-app balance and quickly record the difference as income.
Import from YNAB
You can now import your data from You Need a Budget (YNAB)! Just download your existing budget from the YNAB web app, then import all accounts, transactions, and flags (converted into more flexible tags!) when creating a new Budgetist budget.
π§ Improvements
- More compact UI: Reduced unnecessary white space so you can see more information at once.
- Updated transaction UI on mobile: Transactions are now grouped by date and display an icon showing the direction of fund movement.
- Fuzzy Search: Our search now ignores small typos when looking up payees or categories - and it shows you exactly what was matched.
- Updated Setup Wizard: Weβve cleaned up the setup screen to make it simpler and easier to use.
π Fixed Issues
- Fixed hledger export: This export option has been adjusted so it no longer crashes the
ledgertool. - Fixed initial balance calculation for some banks: When linking accounts for the first time, some banks were exposing an extra value for the initial balance. We now use the correct one.
- Fixed adding liability accounts: An issue with creating new liability accounts has been resolved.
